Al-'Alaq
The Clot
Arabic
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
1
ٱقۡرَأۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ
Iqra biismi rabbika allathee khalaqa
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth
2
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ
Khalaqa alinsana min AAalaqin
Createth man from a clot
3
ٱقۡرَأۡ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡأَكۡرَمُ
Iqra warabbuka alakramu
Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous
4
ٱلَّذِی عَلَّمَ بِٱلۡقَلَمِ
Allathee AAallama bialqalami
Who teacheth by the pen
5
عَلَّمَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مَا لَمۡ یَعۡلَمۡ
AAallama alinsana ma lam yaAAlam
Teacheth man that which he knew not
6
كَلَّاۤ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ لَیَطۡغَىٰۤ
Kalla inna alinsana layatgha
Nay, but verily man is rebellious
7
أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰۤ
An raahu istaghna
That he thinketh himself independent
8
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجۡعَىٰۤ
Inna ila rabbika alrrujAAa
Lo! unto thy Lord is the return
9
أَرَءَیۡتَ ٱلَّذِی یَنۡهَىٰ
Araayta allathee yanha
Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth
10
عَبۡدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰۤ
AAabdan itha salla
A slave when he prayeth
11
أَرَءَیۡتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰۤ
Araayta in kana AAala alhuda
Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah)
12
أَوۡ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقۡوَىٰۤ
Aw amara bialttaqwa
Or enjoineth piety
13
أَرَءَیۡتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰۤ
Araayta in kaththaba watawalla
Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward
14
أَلَمۡ یَعۡلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَرَىٰ
Alam yaAAlam bianna Allaha yara
Is he then unaware that Allah seeth
15
كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمۡ یَنتَهِ لَنَسۡفَعَۢا بِٱلنَّاصِیَةِ
Kalla lain lam yantahi lanasfaAAan bialnnasiyati
Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock
16
نَاصِیَةࣲ كَـٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةࣲ
Nasiyatin kathibatin khatiatin
The lying, sinful forelock
17
فَلۡیَدۡعُ نَادِیَهُۥ
FalyadAAu nadiyahu
Then let him call upon his henchmen
18
سَنَدۡعُ ٱلزَّبَانِیَةَ
SanadAAu alzzabaniyata
We will call the guards of hell
19
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَ̅ٱ̅سۡ̅جُ̅دۡ̅ وَٱقۡتَرِب ۩
Kalla la tutiAAhu waosjud waiqtarib
Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah)
