Who we are
Dhikr Gifting For Online Selling (trading as Dhikr Gifting, "Dhikr", "we", "us") is a sole establishment licensed by the Department of Economy and Tourism, Dubai, under commercial licence number 1608559 (Unified No. EZ1363). We are based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and operate the website dhikr.ae, the Dhikr online shop, and the Dhikr mobile app for iOS and Android. For any question about this policy, contact us at salam@dhikr.ae.
What this policy covers
This policy applies to everything we offer under the Dhikr name: the website at dhikr.ae, our online shop, and the Dhikr mobile app (iOS and Android), including its free tools of remembrance. Where a section applies only to the app or only to the shop, we say so.
Our guiding principle is restraint. Dhikr is built to help you worship, not to profile you. We collect as little as we can, we keep most of what you create on your own device, and we never sell your information.
Using the app without an account
The Dhikr app works fully without an account, and no sign in is required to use it. When you use it this way, the things you create and keep, your bookmarks, saved du'as, tasbeeh counts, prayer settings, and last read place, are stored only on your device. They are not sent to us, and we cannot see them.
When you create an account
An account is optional. Its only purpose is to keep your saved items across your devices and restore them if you change phones. If you choose to create one, we collect:
- Your email address, and a password, which is stored only as a secure one-way hash and never in plain text.
- An optional display name, and your language and time zone, so the app can present times and content correctly.
- If you prefer, you may sign in with Apple or Google instead of a password. In that case we receive only the basic identifier they provide, and, if you allow it, your email. You can choose to hide your email through Sign in with Apple.
- The preferences and saved items you choose to sync, such as bookmarks and settings, so they can travel with you.
- If you turn on two factor authentication, the information needed to verify your codes.
Location
The app can use your device location for two purposes only: to calculate accurate prayer times for where you are, and to point the qibla compass. This calculation happens on your device. Your precise location is not sent to us and is not stored on our servers.
If you search for a city by name instead, that search is sent to a third party geocoding service (Open-Meteo) to turn the city name into coordinates. You can decline location access entirely and simply choose your city; the app still works.
Notifications
Prayer time reminders and the adhan alert are scheduled locally on your device, so they work even with no connection. Granting notification permission is your choice, and you can change it at any time in your device settings.
When you buy something
This section covers purchases from our online shop and any paid features inside the app.
- Shop orders. To fulfil a physical order we collect your name, contact details, delivery address, and the items ordered. Physical products are delivered within the United Arab Emirates; digital products are delivered by email worldwide.
- Payment. Card payments are processed securely by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not see or store your full card number.
- In-app purchases. If you subscribe or upgrade inside the app, the purchase is handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play, through our provider RevenueCat. We receive confirmation of your entitlement, not your payment card. On the web, subscriptions are handled by Stripe.
Recitation audio
When you play a recitation, the audio is streamed from a third party Islamic content network. As with loading any online media, this involves a request from your device to that service. No account or personal detail is attached to it.
Technical information
To keep accounts secure and the service working, our servers process limited technical information when the app or site talks to them, such as your device or session identifier, and the approximate time of a request. This is used for security, rate limiting, and fraud prevention, not to build a profile of you.
How we use what we collect
- To provide the app and the shop, and to keep your saved items in sync if you have an account.
- To process, deliver, and support your orders.
- To keep accounts secure, including two factor authentication and detecting misuse.
- To respond to your messages.
- To send the Friday du'a or occasional news, only if you subscribed. You can unsubscribe at any time.
We do not use your information to serve advertisements, and Dhikr contains no advertising.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we never will. We share it only with the services needed to run Dhikr, and only as far as each needs to do its job:
- Payment and store providers (Stripe, and, for in-app purchases, Apple, Google, and RevenueCat) to take payment and confirm entitlements.
- Delivery partners to bring physical orders to you.
- Sign in providers (Apple, Google) if you choose to use them.
- Where the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and our business.
Where your data is stored and how it is protected
Account and order data is held on our servers in the United Arab Emirates. Passwords are stored only as secure hashes, sign in tokens are kept in your device's secure storage (the system Keychain on iOS, the Keystore on Android), and connections are encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable and appropriate measures to protect your information.
How long we keep it
Items kept only on your device remain until you delete them or remove the app. If you have an account, we keep your account and synced items until you delete them or close your account. Order records are kept as long as needed for the order, for support, and for any legal or tax obligation.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account from within the app or by emailing salam@dhikr.ae. When you do, we begin deletion after a short grace period of seven days, during which you can cancel if you change your mind. After that, your account and its synced data are permanently removed by an automated process. Data held only on your device is removed when you delete it there or uninstall the app.
Your rights
You may ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and you may withdraw consent to our emails at any time. To make a request, email salam@dhikr.ae. We will respond within a reasonable time.
Children
Dhikr is intended for a general audience and is suitable for family use, but it is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will remove it.
Cookies
Our website uses minimal, essential cookies. Our shop may use additional cookies to keep your cart and complete checkout; these are described within the shop. The mobile app does not use advertising cookies or trackers.
International users
Dhikr is operated from the United Arab Emirates. If you use it from elsewhere, you understand that your information is processed in the UAE and by the providers named above, which may be located in other countries.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Significant changes will be reflected here, and where appropriate, within the app.
